Welcome to Sydney's traditional jazz scene...live jazz in Sydney......Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...and this coming Friday 28th August 2015 the Canberra crew are up to form the Black Mountain and Bridge City Jazz Band...Tony Thomas on trumpet lead and vocals, Ron Cook on piano and Ian Hill on drums...as well we will play on the Sat. 29th at the Newcastle Jazz Festival with a set before and another after lunch...

Its always a great night when the three former Black Mountain Jazz Band people come up to join with the Bridge City Jazz Band forming a band....The Black Mountain and Bridge City Jazz Band...to play for you on the Friday evening 28th August at Club Ashfield and then again at the 2015 Newcastle Jazz Festival on the Saturday 29th August. The times for the Newcastle sets are...11.30am to 12.30pm in the Chevals Room and then 2-3pm in the Piano Pavilion. The Festival is based in the Jockey Club at the Newcastle Race Course.
The Canberra crew as we loosely call them are Tony Thomas on trumpet lead and vocals., Ron Cook on the piano and Ian Hill on drums.
The Bridge City regulars are John Bates on trombone and vocals, Colin Davies on double bass and myself Dennis Quinlan on banjo.
Our regular reed player Colin Beal is absent due to a medical procedure and we're pleased  to have the Sydney clarinetist and soprano sax player Jack Wiard fill the bill for both gigs.
The Friday night gig is of course at Club Ashfield, 1-11 Charlotte St., Ashfield 7.30pm-10.30pm....

Club Ashfield is at 1-11 Charlotte Street, Ashfield beside the Ashfield Railway station on the northern side and the gig is up on the first floor in the bistro/function area from 7.30pm to 10.30pm with the restaurant serving nice food until 9pm.....I always eat there on Jazz nights.... Best of all the admission is FREE....

As mentioned the Newcastle Jazz Festival is on at the Newcastle Jockey Club in the grounds of the Newcastle Race Course.....
Future special guests with the Bridge City Jazz Band at Club Ashfield and other BCJB future gigs...
