Up from Canberra are two former members of the Black Mountain Jazz Band...Tony Thomas on trumpet lead and Ron Cook playing Club Ashfield's grand piano with evergreen Jim Morrell on the drum stool...complementing and taking the band to a seven piece traditional jazz band with a New Orleans flavour are John Bates on trombone/vocals, Colin Beal on reeds, Colin Davies on double bass and Dennis Quinlan on banjo.....
Always a swing, danceable night.....
And the band as such plays on the Sunday 17th at The Pines, Old Northern Road, Dural 12.30pm to 4pm with Chris Gentle replacing Jim as the drummer...as this is an outdoors gig it is weather dependent and there is a cover charge of $15/head....
Club Ashfield is at 5 Charlotte Street, Ashfield beside the Ashfield Railway
station on the northern side and the gig is up on the first floor in
the bistro/function area from 7.30pm to 10.30pm with the restaurant
serving nice food until 9pm.....I always eat there on Jazz nights....
Best of all the admission is FREE....
Where is The Pines gig....??
Just past the Dural shopping centre on Old Northern Road, Dural some 200 metres on the left, the entrance to the information centre...
Chris Gentle plays drums with the band at The Pines.....
