Jazz in Sydney....Bridge City Jazz Band at Club Ashfield Friday 4th March 2011....

Mike Hallam is more well known for his Hot 6 Jazz Band, but we are pleased he is one of our guest trumpet players, well actually he's a multi instrumentalist as he usually brings a trombone and a harmonica as well and he and John Bates slip into a two trombone routine later in the evening....
So this Friday 4th March 2011, Mike leads the band and we'll get some vocals as a bonus...
Piano is a welcome back to David Stevens.... DS hails from the UK an age ago and played in Mick Jagger's rock band before he became world famous, Mick Jagger that is....we'll resist the obvious dig....
The drum seat is for Craig Lee, Mike's son-in-law and a welcome addition to the group....the rest of the Bridge City Jazz Band are the usual suspects listed lower down in this blog....
Left click on the images to enlarge....
Some sad news from Gary Walford at the gig on Friday 25th is that the Unity Hall Hotel have cancelled the remaining Friday night Jazz...it has run for 38 and a half years......the longest running Jazz gig in Sydney, likely Australia.
The last night is this coming Friday 4th March...we'll excuse you from Club Ashfield that night  if you feel inclined to support Gary and his band on it's finale.....
Mike's a great animal lover and he and Maggie frequently slip out of Sydney with their caravan for some time in the bush...

Where is Club Ashfield...see the map above....

A rather cool looking Craig....

The lads from the Bridge City Jazz Band....
Colin Davies....double bass
John Bates......vocals and trombone
Colin Beal.......reeds
Dennis Quinlan.....banjo

Of late, Kate Dunbar OAM, a legend in Jazz singing in Australia and who runs her Singers Workshop at More's Cafe, 107 Glebe Point Road, Glebe every Tuesday evening 7.30pm-10pm( been going for over 20 years and many well-known women singers have passed though her hands....) is a frequent visitor to Club Ashfield and it is a pleasure to have her sing a song or two with us....
