Welcome to Sydney's traditional jazz scene...live jazz in Sydney......Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...and this coming Friday 28th November 2014...we've a special "Birthday Bash" for Paul Furniss, celebrating his 70th birthday...he'll lead the band on soprano sax with Geoff Bull a co-leader on trumpet, Gary Walford on piano, and Graham Hilgendorf on drums....

Internationally known reed player Paul Furniss is often a special guest leading the Bridge City Jazz Band at Club Ashfield...but this coming Friday 28th November 2014 the Bridge City Jazz Band has a big "Birthday Bash" for his 70th birthday with Geoff Bull on trumpet, Gary Walford on the Club's grand piano, Paul on soprano saxophone and clarinet and Graham Hilgendorf on drums complementing the band regulars...John Bates on trombone/vocals, Colin Beal on reeds, Colin Davies on double bass and myself Dennis Quinlan on banjo....
What a wow of a night it promises to be.....
A large birthday card with many photos of Paul's life and space to write good wishes...a large birthday cake for him to cut and share with those in the audience and a great night of traditional jazz.....

Club Ashfield is at 5 Charlotte Street, Ashfield beside the Ashfield Railway station on the northern side and the gig is up on the first floor in the bistro/function area from 7.30pm to 10.30pm with the restaurant serving nice food until 9pm.....I always eat there on Jazz nights....
Best of all the admission is FREE....

Welcome to Sydney's traditional jazz scene...live jazz in Sydney......Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...and this coming Friday 21st November 2014...we've Al Davey on trumpet lead, Peter Locke on the Club's grand piano and Jim Morrell on drums....

Al Davey's a great trumpet and trombone player in the traditional jazz scene and he's with us this coming Friday 21st November 2014 at Club Ashfield to lead the Bridge City Jazz Band on trumpet...Peter Locke on the Club's grand piano and he'll likely have his trumpet with him and we can organise a trumpet duo with Bradley Newman on piano...he usually pops along for the night.
Jim Morrell, the bands drummer in the early stages is on the drum stool tonight.
These join with the regular Bridge City Jazz Band regulars...John Bates on trombone/vocals, Colin Davies on double bass, myself Dennis Quinlan on banjo and Colin Beal on alto saxophone and clarinet...
A supercharged traditional jazz band playing for you....

Welcome to Sydney's traditional jazz scene...live jazz in Sydney......Club Ashfield is the venue and with its long residency, The Bridge City Jazz Band is the band....a nominal 4 piece we have three special guests each Friday taking the band up to a 7 piece swinging trad.jazz band...and this coming Friday 14th November 2014...we've The "bouncing Czech" Jiri Kripac on trumpet lead with David Stevens on piano and Chris Gentle on drums.....

Jiri Kripac with the infectious laugh, bald head hidden by his favourite hat and great trumpet style is leading the Bridge City Jazz Band at Club Ashfield this coming Friday night the 14th November 2014 with his old mate, pianist David Stevens on piano and Chris Gentle on drums....
Always a riotous night of great traditional jazz.....




The usual Bridge City Jazz Band regulars make up the 7 piece for the night.....myself, Dennis Quinlan on banjo; Colin Davies on double bass; Colin Beal on alto saxophone ans clarinet and John Bates on trombone and vocals...
